The Number One: Just a Few Loves to Start!

This is just a quick introduction post; I am working at a media agency at the moment and my department throws me into everything advertising and PR based. My department is called MBA; media beyond advertising, this means we all work on extensional promotional techniques for brands investing in long or short term advertising campaigns, varying from sponsorship, SEO to social media and viral campaigning. I also get a good understanding of the other departments surrounding the activity we manage such as TV, radio, press, outdoor, PR etc.

Since it’s the New Year and my job has allowed me to pay high attention to current campaigns I thought I would show some of my favourite adverts, both viral and TV, from 2010. There were six loves that stood out to me…

6. Adidas Originals – The Street Where Originality Lives

I liked this one because it reflected fun and youth culture, all types of young people from street dwellers to celebrities (the appearance of Mr Beckham definitely helped it to loves status). I thought it has a good song behind it and was a feel good summer advert.

5. Compare the Market – Compare the Meerkats

This was rated the most popular video of 2010 according to TheGuardian.co.uk, I loved it and my Uni friends and myself even ended up having a cuddly Alex meerkat living in our second year house.

4. Visa – Football Evolution

I loved this advert – typical message your life will be better with our brand but works so well and fitted in with the world cup! I also love the good quality of it and the money that must have been spent to make it original; running across the world and catching a glimpse of the endless uses of the product made for excellent viewing.

3. Old Spice- The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

Starting as a viral moving on to TV this advert was one of the most successful of 2010, modernising Old Spice for a new younger market. The ad also must have had a low budget which makes it impressive in the opposite way to the Visa Football Evolution. The Sun also did a version of this to promote page 3 using a female model.

2. Stella Artois – Originally Crafted Christmas 2010

This advert is great for Stella and all of the ones they have made in the last year have the similar theme. I love how suave the winner is it makes the viewing and the product desirable, the French culture theme is appealing to me too.

1. Thinkbox advert - Every home needs a Harvey

Again a viral and a TV ad; this one made me laugh the most, very clever and everyone I know loves it too – obvious reasons.

Anyway, hope that brightened up some of your days, I will try and post again soon!
